Hanover, MD, NBC will be using eight of Broadcast Sports Inc.'s (BSI) proprietary MIC1500 Blue Steel Wireless Microphone Systems during the broadcast of Super Bowl XLVI on February 5. The microphones are a custom designed and built product from BSI that operate in clean spectrum and are ideally suited for large events like the Super Bowl that are plagued by spectrum availability issues. By moving spectrum usage out of the UHF band, BSI is able to provide up to 450 channels of broadcast quality wireless microphone audio without fear of interference from local broadcasters and other event operations. While usage comes with the added burden of specialized frequency coordination, guaranteed interference-free operation is critical during such a high profile event.
In addition to the MIC1500's, BSI will also be providing eight wireless IFB TX/RX units and nine custom designed and built BSI talent packs to support the live game and pre-game show at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. BSI's technology will allow NBC to achieve seamless wireless communication and audio broadcasting from anywhere on the field. BSI has been covering NFL Conference Championship and Super Bowl games in different capacities for over 15 years using the latest digital technologies. The dependability and interference free operation of BSI's wireless systems combined with its vast field experience and in-house design capabilities has enabled BSI to provide a variety of robust solutions for a wide range of operating environments. This has allowed their broadcast clients the flexibility to capture the right moments in the right places from all over the stadium.
Coverage of Super Bowl XLVI begins at noon, ET on NBC with the Super Bowl XLVI Pre-Game Show. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET.
